San juan viewpoint – the best overlook of the historic center

  • we drive toward the western hillside to reach the traditional san juan neighborhood, located on the slopes of the pichincha volcano. from this viewpoint, visitors enjoy sweeping views of san francisco square, the colonial street grid, red-tile roofs, and the dramatic setting of quito’s historic core.

Basilica of the national vow – ecuadorian gargoyles

  • visit to the impressive neo-gothic basilica, renowned for its unique gargoyles inspired by ecuador’s wildlife: galápagos tortoises, amazon monkeys, blue-footed boobies, caimans, and andean condors. a fascinating blend of biodiversity and architecture.

Independence square – the political and spiritual heart of Ecuador

  • Guided walk through the main square, home to the presidential palace, metropolitan cathedral, city hall, and archbishop’s palace. explanation of the country’s independence history and its political evolution.

Metropolitan Cultural Center – Jesuit legacy and colonial beauty

  • Entrance to this historic complex, once part of the Jesuit order. we explore its elegant courtyards, corridors, staircases, and balconies overlooking the main square.

Church of la Compañía de Jesús – a Baroque Masterpiece

  • Visit to the iconic Jesuit church, considered one of the greatest baroque works in latin america. its interior, entirely adorned with gold leaf, carvings, and paintings, creates an unforgettable visual experience.

San Francisco Square – Museo del Alabado & San Francisco Museum

  • Visit to the Museo del Alabado, showcasing extraordinary pre-columbian art. then continue to the San Francisco Museum, filled with masterpieces from the quito school of art.

  • Traditional lunch

  • Enjoy local specialties such as empanadas de viento, potato-and-cheese locro, chochos with spicy ají, and figs with fresh cheese for dessert.

Middle of the World Monument

  • Transfer to the equator monument, where visitors can stand on the 0°0’0’’ latitude line, explore museums, learn about the geodesic missions, and visit local artisan shops.

  • Return to the marriott hotel – approx. 4:30 pm
