United for a World Free of Glaucoma

World Glaucoma Week is observed during the second week of March, from March 8 to 14 this year. Its purpose is to raise awareness about a medical condition that affects countless people around the world.

This observance seeks to emphasize early detection and timely treatment, as glaucoma continues to be one of the leading causes of blindness worldwide.

Objectives

We aim to prevent, educate, and preserve vision by reducing the impact of this silent disease.

  • Raise public awareness about the importance of early glaucoma detection, as it is one of the leading causes of irreversible blindness worldwide.

  • Promote preventive eye examinations, especially for people with risk factors (over 40 years of age, family history, diabetes, hypertension, high myopia, among others).

  • Educate about the disease, its silent progression, available treatments, and the need for continuous medical follow-up.

  • Promote public policies and health programs that ensure access to timely diagnosis and treatment.

  • Mobilize institutions, physicians, and patients to work together in the prevention of blindness caused by glaucoma.
