Opening Ceremony – Congress 2026
Church of the Society of Jesus, Historic Center / 19h00

The 13th Congress of the Latin American Glaucoma Society will begin in a truly exceptional setting: the Church of the Society of Jesus, regarded as one of the finest expressions of Baroque art in Latin America.
 

In this breathtaking space, where history, art, and spirituality intertwine, an उद्घural ceremony will take place, marking the beginning of this high-level scientific gathering. The temple’s rich ornamentation and unique atmosphere will provide a solemn and inspiring backdrop to welcome the international community.


The evening will include:
 

• An official opening ceremony, with welcome remarks from authorities and organizers.
• A brief cultural performance, featuring carefully selected music that highlights Quito’s and Latin America’s traditions, creating a sensory experience in harmony with the heritage setting.

Afterward, attendees will be invited to a welcome cocktail reception in a heritage venue within the Historic Center, where they can connect in a relaxed atmosphere, surrounded by Quito’s architectural and cultural richness.
 

Organized transportation will be provided to and from the JW Marriott Quito for all attendees.

Latin American Night

The Latin American Night will take place in one of the country’s most emblematic cultural venues: the Capilla del Hombre, a masterpiece by the Ecuadorian artist Oswaldo Guayasamín, whose artistic vision transcended borders to become a symbol of Latin American identity and memory.
 

Located in a privileged area of the city, with a stunning view of Quito, the Capilla offers a deeply moving setting where art engages in dialogue with history and human dignity.
 

The evening will include:
 

• A guided tour of the Capilla del Hombre and Guayasamín’s house museum, allowing attendees to connect with the artist’s work and legacy.
• A cocktail-style dinner with gastronomic stations inspired by Latin American flavors.
• A live musical performance, evoking the rhythms and cultural diversity of the region.

This evening is designed to foster connection and integration, in an atmosphere that celebrates what unites us as a region: culture, history, and a shared sensibility.

Middle of the World City

The Congress will conclude at an iconic landmark: the Ciudad Mitad del Mundo, a symbolic point where the Northern and Southern Hemispheres converge, and where Ecuador is projected as a land of connection.
 

In this unique setting, rich in geographical and cultural significance, the closing of the Congress will be celebrated as an expression of unity, diversity, and a forward-looking vision.
 

The closing day will include:
 

• A symbolic closing ceremony, with final remarks and recognition of participants.
