Natural and artisanal treasures of Imbabura

An intimate journey through the cultural, natural and artisanal treasures of Imbabura, a province declared a UNESCO Global Geopark thanks to its geodiversity, volcanic lakes, ancestral communities and unique crafts.

Day 1

Cayambe, Cóndor park, Peguche & Hacienda Cusin

      

  • Stop in Cayambe
    Biscuits & local cheese

    Traditional stop in Cayambe to taste freshly baked biscochos (local biscuits) served with queso de hoja, dulce de leche or hot chocolate. Cayambe is famous for its artisanal dairy products and for lying right on the equatorial line.

    Condor Park

  • Visit Condor Park, a rescue and conservation center for Andean raptors:

  • Andean condor.

  • Eagles, hawks and caracaras.

  • Educational flight demonstrations.

  • Viewpoints facing Imbabura volcano.

  • A unique conservation project working with rescued wildlife and offering a responsible educational experience.

    Lunch at historic Hacienda Cusin, a 17th‑century estate surrounded by gardens, colonial architecture, art and cozy fireplaces. Menu based on traditional highland cuisine and local ingredients.

    Peguche

  • Afternoon visit to Peguche:

  • Sacred waterfall used in ancestral rituals.

  • Andean weaving workshops using wooden looms.

  • Artisans and musicians who keep Kichwa traditions alive.

    Overnight at Hacienda Cusin (breakfast & taxes included).

     

Day 2

Cuicocha lagoon & cotacachi


       Cuicocha Lagoon

  • Visit the crater lake of Cuicocha, within

    Cotacachi‑Cayapas Reserve:

  • Gentle walk along interpretive trails.

  • Panoramic viewpoints over the volcanic islands.

  • Highland páramo flora and Andean shrubs.

    Lunch

  • Typical highland lunch in the area.

    Cotacachi

  • Stroll through Ecuador’s leather capital:

  • Leather workshops and boutiques.

  • High‑quality bags, shoes, belts and jackets.

  • Calm atmosphere in a town recognized as a Slow City.

    Overnight at Hacienda Cusin (breakfast & taxes included).

     

Day 3

Otavalo, Ibarra, Angochagua, Zuleta & Cayambe


       Otavalo Market
 

  • Visit the most famous indigenous market in South America:
     

  • Wool ponchos and tapestries.

  • Wood and ceramic handicrafts.

  • Embroidered clothing and Kichwa textiles.

    Ibarra – The White City & ice‑cream
     

  • Short walk through Ibarra’s historic center and tasting of traditional helados de paila (fruit sorbets made in copper pans over ice).

    Lunch in La Merced Baja

  • Lunch in a traditional rural area, featuring home‑style cooking and fresh local produce.

    Angochagua

  • Visit to Angochagua, designated a Magical Town of Ecuador and ancestral Karanki territory:

  • Agricultural landscapes.

  • Adobe houses.

  • Ancestral textile and farming traditions.

    Zuleta

  • Visit Zuleta, renowned for its fine hand embroidery and rural scenery at the foothills of Imbabura volcano.

    Cayambe – Snacks & return

  • Final stop for snacks and water before returning to Quito.
