The Province of Lakes

Imbabura, known as the “Province of Lakes,” is a land rich in culture, nature, ancestral traditions and spectacular Andean landscapes. Declared a UNESCO Global Geopark, it features volcanic lagoons, Kichwa communities with unique crafts, authentic highland cuisine and some of the most important Indigenous markets in South America.

This one‑day tour highlights the essentials of Imbabura: its cultural heritage, artisanal identity and extraordinary natural surroundings.

Day itinerary

      

  • QUITSATO – Equator line
    Visit to the Quitsato Solar Clock, a scientific and cultural project located exactly on the equatorial line. Explanation of its astronomical importance and its connection to pre-Hispanic cultures.

    Cayambe stop – Biscuits

  • Tasting of the famous Cayambe biscochos served with queso de hoja and local sweets. A traditional Andean experience.

    Otavalo – Indegenious market

  • Visit to the most famous Indigenous market in South America: textiles, ponchos, tapestries, musical instruments and Kichwa crafts.

    Peguche

  • Visit to Peguche, known for its sacred waterfall and its traditional weaving workshops using wooden looms.

    Local lunch

  • Typical highland lunch included.

    Cotacachi

  • Visit to the leather capital of Ecuador: handmade bags, jackets, belts and high-quality leather products.
