More than 80 volcanoes

The Ecuadorian Andes contain more than 80 volcanoes, 27 of them potentially active. This legendary route —the Avenue of the Volcanoes— showcases giants such as the Ilinizas, Cotopaxi, Tungurahua, Carihuairazo, Chimborazo and El Altar.

Day 1

Quito – Cotopaxi – Limpiopungo – Hacienda La Ciénega

08:00 Departure along the Avenue of the Volcanoes, viewing Atacazo, Rumiñahui, Ilinizas and Cotopaxi.


09:30 Entrance to Cotopaxi National Park.


10:30 Walk around Limpiopungo Lagoon.


12:30 Transfer to Hacienda La Ciénega.


13:00 Lunch and free afternoon.


Overnight at La Ciénega.
 

Day 2

La Ciénega – Ambato – Guano – Riobamba

08:00 Drive to Ambato with views of Carihuairazo and Tungurahua.


09:30 Visit to Las Lirias Estates.


12:00 Typical lunch at Ambato Market.


14:00 Scenic route to Riobamba via San Andrés, viewing Chimborazo and El Altar.


15:00 Visit to Guano: handwoven carpets and fresh cholitas.


17:00 Arrival at Abraspungo Hotel.
 

Day 3

Riobamba – Ingapirca – Cuenca

08:00 Departure to Ingapirca.


11:00 Guided visit to the Cañari-Inca complex.


13:00 Lunch at Posada de Ingapirca.


16:30 Arrival in Cuenca (Hotel Victoria).
 

Day 4

Cuenca – Historic Center

08:00 Breakfast.


09:00 Convent of Las Conceptas.


10:00 Calderón Park and Cathedral.


11:00 San Luis Monastery.


11:30 Dr. Sojos Old Pharmacy.


12:00 Old Cathedral.


13:00 Lunch at Los Tiestos.


14:30 Todos los Santos.


15:00 Pumapungo + Illescas Workshop.


18:00 Return to hotel.


19:00 Optional dinner at Mansión Matilde.
